Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q: I work downtown. Where can I park on Monday, May 17?

A: You can park in the regular parking structures and lots. You can’t park on the AMGEN route (C Street, 2nd Street, F Street, 5th Street) until the racers and race vehicles leave town at about 11:05 a.m. Look at the map in the program.

Also stay away from the Central Park area because of the race start setup. Cars parked on C and B Streets in the way of the racers will be towed.

Best yet, try biking, taking Unitrans or walking downtown.

  2. Q: When will the streets be closed?

A: The course will be closed around 10:40 a.m. for the 11:00 a.m. start. Streets around Central Park will be closed earlier on May 17 or for C Street, on Sunday May 16 at 7:00 p.m.

  3. Q: Should I schedule appointments or deliveries on Monday, May 17?

A: If your clients or suppliers need to come downtown on May 17, have them park away from the race route and walk to your business, come in early or wait until the racers leave after 11:05 a.m.

  4. Q: Will it be noisy?

A: There will be amplified announcements and music on the C Street stage from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17. Along the route, you will hear cowbells and cheers as early vehicles go by leading up to the bicycle racers at 11:00 a.m.

  5. Q: Where should I watch the race?

A: Anywhere along the route is free. Some restaurants are running race day specials. Just stay back of the curb for your own safety. The race vehicles are driving pretty fast as they clear the path for the racers.

  6. Q: What about Unitrans?

A: Unitrans will run its regular service schedule to the extent possible. Most buses will not be running at all during the times when the race course is closed. In addition, some downtown lines will be detoured to nearby streets prior to the race. If your bus is scheduled between 10:00-noon, please see www.unitrans.com for details.
